Dear Friends

BY LINDA DOBSON

“No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear. I am not afraid, but the sensation is like being afraid. The same fluttering in the stomach, the same restlessness, the yawning. I keep on swallowing. At other times it feels like being mildly drunk, or concussed. There is a sort of invisible blanket between the world and me. I find it hard to take in what anyone says. Or perhaps, hard to want to take it in. It is so uninteresting. Yet I want the others to be about me. I dread the moments when the house is empty. If only they would talk to one another and not to me.”

~ C. S. Lewis, A Grief Observed

Dear friends,

C. S. Lewis pretty much sums up where I exist these days. I rely on the love of family and friends to keep me moving forward, even if ever so slowly, because I’ve yet to return to a place where I want, or care, to.

And yet, there is so much to catch up on with my friends here as life goes on within me and without me. (Thank you, George Harrison.)

Welcome, New Friends

Despite my absence, many of you recently signed up for Parent at the Helm’s newsletter, Facebook and/or Twitter accounts. I welcome all new friends, and want you to know things will pick up around here soon, as I am able. Thank you so very much for being here.

Thank you, Old Friends

Your words of support, comfort, kindness, love and hope helped me through a tremendously trying time. Thank you for taking the time to write, and for continuing to think about what was unfolding in my life. Your messages brought too many tears to be able to address them as received, but they warmed my heart and soul.

A Holiday Wish for All Friends

Last, I realize that the holidays follow closely on the heels of what should have been Ken’s birthday yesterday, so I’m reminded that, no matter what holiday you celebrate, I want my friends to know that I hope you and your family have a wonderful, peace and love-filled celebration and season.

Given the state of the world, my only wish this year is for a lifting of the consciousness of humanity.

    • Oh, Heather, many thanks to all of you. I hope all is going well for everyone. I so appreciate the love – my sweetheart left a big void in that department. Enjoy the new year and keep smiling.

Sweet friend, my heart is there with you. I had no idea any of this was happening, and I’m so sorry for that. I wish you love and hope, and I’m lifting you up in prayer right now.
